DESCRIPTION  

French Avenue Obsidian smells like an ice-cold citrus cocktail that slowly turns into warm cognac and caramel. The opening is almost shockingly bright and chilled, while the dry-down goes in the complete opposite direction—boozy, spicy, woody and sweet. That hot-versus-cold contrast is what gives Obsidian its personality.

 

The first spray hits with a whole wave of citrus. Italian lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, bitter orange and bergamotcreate a sparkling, slightly bitter freshness, while aldehydes make everything feel even brighter. An icy accord runs through the opening, giving the citrus an almost frozen quality rather than the usual juicy lemonade sweetness.

Then Obsidian starts warming up.

 

Cognac, cinnamon and caramel completely change the direction of the fragrance. Cognac introduces a smooth boozy richness, cinnamon adds heat, and caramel brings a darker melted sweetness underneath. It's almost like dropping caramel and cinnamon into a chilled citrus cocktail and watching the entire scent become warmer as it sits.

 

This middle stage is where Obsidian gets seriously addictive. You can still catch flashes of citrus, but they're now surrounded by boozy warmth and caramelized sweetness. It feels gourmand without smelling like straight dessert and boozy without becoming overwhelmingly alcoholic.

 

As the fragrance dries down, tonka bean and sandalwood make everything smoother and creamier. Cashmere wood brings a soft woody texture, while oak gives the base more structure. Myrrh adds a darker resinous warmth that prevents all the caramel and tonka sweetness from becoming too fluffy.

 

The easiest way to picture Obsidian is frozen citrus → cinnamon cognac → caramelized woods.

 

It starts like something you'd want over ice and ends like something you'd want beside a fireplace.

 

That's what makes Obsidian more interesting than a straightforward sweet fragrance. The opening is crisp enough to wake you up, the heart smells warm enough to pull you closer, and the dry-down leaves behind a smooth combination of tonka, woods, caramel and lingering spice.
